Road trip in the winter? Definitely!
In addition to the cold, winter brings with it a whole bunch of fun activities such as sledding, skiing, snowball throwing, snowman building and other spectacular snow stuff that starts with “S.” But let the kids have it. This winter, get away and do something different with your loved one. And there are few things as romantic as heating up those chills with a winter road trip.
Remember the mix tapes you used to crank in the car? The games you used to invent on the highway? How you used to not mind sharing a sleeping bag? Do it all over again. And then do more. Pick a spot you’ve never been to before and cruise. If you don’t know of any cool places, or don’t know where to look, then you came to the right place. Check out some of the great routes for romantic winter road trips right here. And if you are thinking, “I don’t live near any of these places,” then you are maybe missing the point of a road trip.
Roads worth traveling:
U.S. Route 1 – Maine:
This road will take you through a bunch of small seaside towns with gorgeous, historic mansions to ogle over and quaint bed and breakfasts to get cozy in. There is no shortage of great food or warm blankets, so you and your loved one can get full and sleep in. After all, you have to get out of the car sometime.
Scenic Blue Ridge Parkway – Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee:
This road will take several days, which might be what you want. It is over 450 miles and travels through three states and two national parks: Great Smoky Mountain National Park and Shenandoah National Park. If you are feeling adventurous then this is your gig. You could even camp for a few nights, build a big winter bonfire, cuddle under a blanket and relax under winter stars.
Route 100 – Vermont:
This route spans the state with 200 miles of beautiful scenery, including bridges, the Big Eddy and the Lincoln Gap. The fall colors stay on the trees here too, when snow has taken over other parts of the country. If this is a normal thing for you, then good for you. But if you are like most everyone else and spend your winters in a white freeze, this could be a welcome change of pace. Your travel companion will surely agree. Additionally, you’ll pass Romance Mountain about halfway through your trip. Really, what is more romantic than an entire mountain named Romance.
Leave the snow shoveling to the kids this year. Take your special someone on a road trip.
So while your kids pull on grandma and grandpa, you can be doing the things you’ll one day tell them they still aren’t old enough to do. Make the most of this winter with a romantic road trip you’re sure to never forget.
